Reducing emissions requires cooperation throughout the value chain

As part of the Science Based Targets initiative, Fazer commits to engage its suppliers as well. Reducing carbon emissions in the food system is a huge global challenge and will require contribution from everyone in the food supply chain.

Fazer’s CO2 emissions are mostly from raw-material production. The biggest emission sources in our purchases are grains, cocoa, milk, fats, packaging materials, and transportation. Cooperation throughout the supply chain will continue to play a central role in reducing the emissions.

In line with the Science Based Target initiative, we will ensure that by 2025 53% of our spending on purchased goods and services and upstream transportation and distribution goes to suppliers with science-based targets.

We observe the latest scientific and technological developments. We believe there will be upcoming low-carbon and fossil-free solutions and with our business partners, customers, and suppliers we will find new ways to reduce emissions. 

We have had climate related targets for years. By joining the Science Based Targets initiative we continue our climate work with a globally recognised framework together with our stakeholders. By setting science-based targets, we commit to reducing emissions, not only in our own business, but also in our value chain. Only by working together throughout the value chain can we reach the needed emission reductions to meet the Paris Agreement’s ambition to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
