The Baltic Sea Commitment

fazer-bsag-940x370.jpg

With the Baltic Sea Action Group, Fazer is committed to reducing nutrient pollution.

Fazer has a long tradition of protecting the environment and operating in the Baltic Sea area. We constantly work to decrease the environmental impact of our operations, and Fazer is a considerable player in the Baltic Sea region.

We feel that our operations and what we do together with our partners offer us an opportunity to affect the state of the Baltic Sea. We believe that stronger cooperation in the value chain can help us, together with other players in the field, to achieve something important.

We renewed our Baltic Sea Commitment for 2018–2022. In it, we commit to developing our products, ways of working and offering to contribute to the promotion of the ecological balance of the Baltic Sea. The commitment involves actions and targets concerning circular economy, sustainable grain farming, water stewardship plan and offering development.

  • We support the circular economy through safe recycling of nutrients, reducing the waste amount and improving resource efficiency. We have set targets for each business area for reducing the amount of waste.
  • We will continue implementing the Fazer Grain Vision and developing sustainable grain farming together with our value chain. Fazer’s aim is for all our grain used in consumer goods in Finland and Sweden to comply with the principles of sustainable farming by 2025.
  • We are preparing a water stewardship plan that specifies our goals and the corresponding measures related to water consumption, wastewater, and water use reduction in the value chain.
  • We develop our offering: emphasising domestic raw materials, favouring seasonal produce, expanding our selection of plant-based products, promoting sustainable protein sources, and reducing the amount of food waste.

The current commitment lasts five years. There are several milestones within this period, allowing us to keep track of progress towards meeting the overall goals of the commitment.

What is BSAG?
