Christmas can be an expensive time of year and it’s easy to relax your wallet as well as your waistline during the holidays. When the celebrations have ended and you’ve finished off the last of the Christmas ham, perhaps you’re looking to save a bit of money – especially after seeing your latest bank statement!
“Planning is the key to keeping your spending low. Very often when you get home you don’t know what you’re going to make for dinner and have nothing in the house. If you plan your meals and do a bit of preparation then you can cut down on unnecessary spending,” says Leila Fogelholm, a Nutritionist at Fazer.
Using up leftovers from the festive period is a wonderful way to lower the cost of meals. Whether it's the scrumptious Fazer chocolate you’ve been given as a gift by your friends, or some tasty flatbread that’s about to go out of date, there are some fantastic money-saving methods to help you use up your leftover ingredients.
Why not try using Fazer flatbreads to make cute mini pizzas? Just rustle together all your leftover cooked meat, cheese and other favorite toppings to prepare your masterpiece. Heat the Fazer flatbread slightly, add a layer of chunky tomato sauce, and then delicately sprinkle your toppings equally around the flatbread. Carefully place in a preheated oven for 4-6 minutes and then you’re ready to devour your delicious homemade pizza.
If you have an abundance of leftover Fazer chocolate tablets you can try making a heavenly desert – yoghurt with chocolate sprinkles. Simply crush your delicious Fazer Blue, Pure Dark, or any other tablet using a rolling pin, pour your low-cost yoghurt into a small bowl and gently sprinkle the chocolate pieces on top. To finish off, add your favorite fresh fruits to give it an extra juicy boost.
Treat yourself to a taste of luxury with chocolate dipped fruits. Place your favorite Fazer chocolate in heatproof bowls, fill a medium-sized saucepan with 100ml of water, and bring it to a boil over medium heat. Turn off the heat and place the bowl of chocolate over the water to melt. Stir the chocolate until it’s silky smooth. Get a selection of fruits and use chopsticks to dip them in the irresistible chocolate, making sure they are completely covered. Top it off with a sprinkle of Fazer Tyrkisk Peber Crush and let them set on a place.
With a little bit of careful planning and a touch of creativity, you can stretch your shopping budget and eat like royalty.
